This time last year, we were basking in glorious March sunshine. No such luck for this year’s Volksworld Show at Sandown Park, as temperatures had plummeted and snow was in the air. Last year I’d thought it might be quite cool to camp – I’m very, very glad I didn’t. Instead, I let the train take the strain for my journey down to Reading. Having bought Carlos the Karmann Ghia last summer, Brad and Ros (now Mr and Mrs Payne!) were on for another visit to what was promising to be a great day out.
Unfortunately the weather did put quite a significant dampener on things. Because it was so foul, we didn’t get to see most of the exterior display, and the displays in the hall were substantially busier as people were (as we were) reluctant to spend any time outdoors. There were some great cars on show, I just wish it had been a bit more relaxing getting around the place!
The day clearly got Brad’s creative juices flowing though as we put together an email to Volksworld when we got back to Reading for their Readers’ Rides section – it’s about time that Carlos got featured in the magazine!
And then, time for the inaugural Woodley Waldorf Beer Festival! 19 beers were there for the tasting and most of them were excellent. However, there were a couple of notable exceptions – the cherry beer (just nasty) and the smoked beer. I’m not sure I can describe just how foul the smoked beer was. How on earth they can make any money out of brewing the stuff, I have no idea.
