After what seems like an eternity, the sun has come out – and on a bank holiday weekend to boot! So what better way to enjoy the beautiful weather than to get out and about and take a look at some very, very nice old Volkswagens? I’ve never been to the Stanford Hall show before – I’d thought about going last year but the torrential rain meant that the show was cancelled. As it’s in the grounds of a rather lovely stately home, I can completely understand why that was the case.

It was a short walk through the car park (in itself filled with old VWs of all shapes and sizes) to the gate to pay my £8.00 to get in – which is fantastic value if you ask me (the Newmarket Beer Festival could learn a thing or two about value for money, but that’s another story!). The range and volume of cars on display was fantastic, with pretty much something for everyone on view. Having left a little late in the morning, I didn’t quite get chance to see everything, or indeed take a look around the house itself. I did however manage to catch up with Nick and his family and enjoy an ice cream with them before they had to head off. I was there long enough to pick up some sunburn……

Next year, we’re camping!*

*Weather permitting!
