Volksworld Show And Bugfreeze 1999

Fingers crossed, there’s a new flat in the pipeline. As the folks are in the process of trying to sell their place, I’ve been trying to clear out some of my old rubbish. In doing so, I’ve come across a variety of old photos – many of which are so dreadful that they’ll never see the light of day again! But I did manage to find some from both Bugfreeze (as it was known at the time) and the Volksworld Show 1999. If I remember correctly, I put the better ones in a couple of clip frames which I think are in the garage, so these probably aren’t the best of the bunch. At least that’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it!

VW Field of Dreams 2013

VW Field of Dreams is a new addition to the VW show calendar, and took place at York Racecourse over the weekend of 30th August – 1st September. I headed up there on the Sunday morning to take a look around. If I’m honest, I wasn’t massively feeling it, having had a bit of a shocker the night before – but that’s another story altogether! There were a few nice cars in the Show n Shine, although I am thinking that the bug would definitely hold its own against some of the entrants – so maybe that’s something to think about for next year?

VW Festival 2013

With a few exceptions, the vast majority of VW shows all appear to take place in the south of the country, so it’s nice to be able to get to a local show every now and again. Wanting to avoid the long queues that we’d got stuck in a couple of years ago, me and Clarence set off nice and early to head over to Harewood House for the Sunday of this year’s VW Festival. When I last visited the show two years ago, I might have forgotten to put the memory card back in my camera, so this time around I made sure it was in there!

Wolfsburg 2002

It’s scary to think that it’s now 11 years ago since Brad and I undertook our first German road trip. It was a trip that would see us drive over 800 miles in our rented Seat Vario, taking in Lübeck, Berlin, Leipzig (and Colditz Castle), Wolfsburg and finally Hamburg.

This was in the days before either of us had swanky digital cameras, and neither of us owned VWs at the time – although I think my old 74 Beetle might have been languishing in bits in the folks’ garage.

I’d first visited Wolfsburg some 10 years previously on a German language exhange whilst I was at school – but that’s another story altogether (especially the bit about not being very well in the back of Thorsten Bork’s old man’s brand new VW!).

Summer’s Here!

And by jingo it’s hot! But of course that also means that it’s prime VW driving time! I’ve currently got a bit of time on my hands having finished at VM a few weeks ago, so I thought it was high time I put the bug through the dreaded MoT test. Not only that, but the weather had come good just in the nick of time for the trip to Snowdonia that I’d been planning for a while. My only concern was how Clarence was going to cope with the fact that it’s rather a long way from Yorkshire to North Wales, and the last couple of times we tried a trip that long we ended up coming home on the back of a recovery truck……..

Friends in High Places

Or bearing in mind we’re talking about Carlos the Karmann Ghia here, should that be friends in low places?

You may recall from the Volksworld Show post, that after we’d got back from the show back in March we spent some time putting together an email to Volksworld Magazine in the hope that they might think that Carlos was worthy of appearing on the pages of their publication.

Well, somewhere round the beginning of May, I had a call from Brad – and he was more than a little bit excited!

The reason behind his excitement? Well it wasn’t the fact that he’d come home after yet another 48 hour stint in the office to find the latest copy of Tax Monthly Magazine sitting waiting for him on the doormat. Nor was it his Elton John tickets. Oh no, it was something altogether more appealing than that!
